One of Glenville NC’s best kept secrets is Scotlyn’s Yard right off of Hwy 107, about 5 minutes outside of downtown Cashiers, NC. Owned by Scott and Lynn Dillard for over 40 years now, Scotlyn’s Yard is a nursery where you can pick your own Dahlia flowers year-round.
Dahlias are gorgeous, colorful florals that bloom from midsummer through autumn, when many plants and summer flowers are past their prime. They love moist, moderate climates — which makes the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau the most ideal location for growing this plant.
The most charming thing about Scotlyn’s Yard is, they use the ‘honor system’ for guests to pick their own flowers. It’s $2 for every size flower except the dinner plate Dahlias (above 8” in width, which are $4 a piece. If you purchase 15 stems, they offer a price break, $25 for 15 stems — what a steal!
As you approach the building, there is a small table that has a couple pairs of scissors in a mason jar. Guests can use the scissors to cut any dahlias they choose & they ask you to leave cash in the blue box above the table. You’re also able to pay via check by making the check out to Erin Watson.
…the best $25 you’ll spend to have a beautifully custom made, hand-picked bouquet in your home or on your dinner table.
Note: The current address for Scotlyn’s Yard Dahlia picking is 3111 Hwy 107, but they’re moving to the other Scotlyn’s Yard location, the larger nursery at 2306 Hwy 107.
