One of the most memorable experiences from this past year was taking a cooking class at The Barn NC. About 25 minutes outside of Cashiers, past Lake Glenville is a little slice of heaven and where Kristin Jorgensen, a wonderful chef and caterer hosts cooking classes in her home — The Barn. The renovated barn used to be her family’s summer place, and after living in Sonoma County, CA Kristin decided to come back to her Carolina roots to take over the beautiful property and the rustic barn her grandparents restored.
The Barn is truly magical, and Kristin creates a most welcoming atmosphere as she hosts and teaches you to make the most delicious meals. Her classes are well thought out as she creates a menu focused on all things that are fresh and seasonal. One of her specialties, which also happens to be a blast to make are homemade, “any fruit” pop tarts filled with any fruit of your choice — pears, figs, quince, you name it!
She makes all the cooking look seamless and it’s clear a lot of love and passion is put into it! Once all the dishes are complete, you sit down as a group at an elegant, long table overlooking the beautiful view from the barn and enjoy! Kristin hosts both lunch and dinner classes for groups minimum of 4, maximum 8 people. She has this amazing bar when you walk into the barn and at the beginning of each class, she serves a seasonal cocktail. BYOB is also encouraged! To inquire, simply send Kristin an email at: thebarnnc@gmail.com — you won’t regret it!
Cheers!
